Human Trafficking is modern day slavery. It affects the whole world, tying with arms dealing as the second largest criminal industry in the world, and it is rampant even in countries said to have abolished slavery, such as America, Australia, Canada and England. Annually, 700,000 to 2 million victims are trafficked across national borders every year, not mentioning the millions trafficked within their own country.
In America, the CIA estimates there are at least 14500 to 17000 victims trafficked each year, not counting the victims who were already here and the ones who are trafficked out of the United States, leaving thousands, possibly millions of lives shattered. There is no way to properly count how many victims there are of this horrible crime, because new ones are being added all the time and the crime is the fastest growing criminal act in the world.
It is not difficult to find victims or see proof of this issue, especially in Arizona and other states close to the border where illegal immigration is high. The sad truth is, with the rise of illegal immigration the number of trafficking victims goes up as many criminals cross the border along with those trying for a better life. These criminals trick, manipulate, force and steal men, women and children into servitude. No one is safe, no matter the age or gender, from being a slave. They have found boys and girls being forced into prostitution from as young as four years old here in America, with 77% of trafficked sex industry workers being minors as they are often free of STD’s and can be easier to control and capture. The danger to the children is vast. Their young bodies can be broken and stretched in ways they physically and mentally cannot handle, often being unable to every fully recover from the even. Beyond that, in some parts of the world, they believe you can cure HIV and AIDs by having sex with a child, which in all honestly does nothing more than spread the disease to the child, who then is forced to spread it to whoever rapes them next. Sexual preference is disregarded once a victim becomes a slave. They can be gay and forced into relations with women, or they can be lesbian and forced into sexual acts with men. This is quite common as many victims are runaways because of their sexual preference… they can be easy targets for monsters.
There are a number of ways traffickers obtain victims.
So who can become a slave?

It does not matter who you are or where you are from, you need to stay safe and you need to take action to end this horrible crime. If not for the victims already involved in this, then to help save yourself from it.
